We got our first good look at Star Wars Outlaws at Ubisoft's Forward Showcase, and it left a serious impression, with the prospect of spice deals gone wrong, speeder bike chases, and legendary smuggling runs in the offing. After the showing, during a developer breakdown of the footage (thanks, GamesRadar+), Outlaws' creative director Julian Gerighty commented on some of the mechanics at play.
During a scene in which the player can decide to bribe an Imperial official or pull a blaster and ratchet up hostilities with the Empire, Gerighty says: "In these choices, there is no wrong answer. There are just ways to weave your own story, ways to change, challenge, increase your reputation with certain factions and syndicates, decrease it, gain an advantage, or a different perspective on the story, too. So we put a lot of effort in giving the player agency over their own trajectory."
This will apparently include a GTA-style wanted system, with the Empire acting as big brother and deploying increasingly aggressive hostile forces in response to your open-world actions.
Narrative director Navid Khavari described how various factions react to the player's actions, with syndicates like the Hutts or the Pykes throwing their weight around, saying: "Kay's reputation with the syndicates will play a big role in how she approaches her journey, whether it's the Pykes, Hutts, or others. We had a saying that in the underworld, you live and die by your reputation. If a job she takes hurts a syndicate, those opportunities aren't available, so her choices play into how she experiences her journey."
Star Wars Outlaws is due out in 2024 on PS5. What do you think so far? Descend into that den of vice and villainy, the comments section below.

I can always appreciate any Star Wars media that distances itself from Jedi. Jedi are cool and all but you have a literal galaxy full of possibilities in terms of characters, factions, storylines, etc. That have nothing to do with Jedi or so help me any more f----ng Skywalkers.
This is looking fantastic.
I wonder how Ubisoftness will be in it, which is something I don't mind by the way.
This looks really promising. Hope Ubi doesn't F it up.
@PegasusActual93 I agree. We've been long past the day that the jedi are the only interesting thing in the star wars universe.
@Daan6661
The Jedi were never the only interesting part of Star Wars. It's my favorite Scifi universe for so many other reasons.
Looks promising but I’m very suspicious about Ubisoft gameplay videos. We should all remember what happened with the Watchdogs games. Cautious, but interested, although the gunplay doesn’t look great tbh, and I have a feeling much of the ship action will be scripted.
Very excited but also very cautious about the gameplay shown. Hope it isn't too good to be true
Looks very impressive but i don't trust ubisoft. I get Division gameplay reveal vibes from it.
@PegasusActual93 not the only interesting part but they're the most interesting part.
Just admit it, this whole project is just a sneaky attempt to bring back fluffy 80's hair styles.
Wonder if we can pick our own protagonist this game be better with a duke nuke em type dude I miss that 80/90s attitude in games.
I thought this looked pretty special. I just hope Ubisoft fill it with compelling stuff to do and it breaks away from the Ubisoft formula.
Also i'd have been interested to see how the game played out if Kay had bribed the official. It looked like a full set piece so i have questions if the outcome would have been the same with both choices (with some minor text changes) - It will be interesting to see how meaningful the choices in the game turn out to be.
Either way, it looks brilliant from a first viewing and cant wait to get my hands on it
@Rob_230 it's Ubisoft so I'm assuming not very meaningful, just surface level choices
If the game isn't ready by 2024, delay it, just as long as it releases in a good state.
I like it. Hope the best for this. Day one purchase if is well done.
Looks and sounds very ambitious. For sure on my list for next year assuming it does come out next year. Very good showing Ubisoft!
The gameplay of star wars outlaw is really good.word up son
I was a giddy kid again watching the vids and presentations for this, Starfield and Phantom Liberty. A sci-fi nut's dream.
@ShadowofSparta If you have ever played the Division 1 or 2 you will know what to expect in terms of gameplay.
Will there be radio towers on tattooine tho?
@Daan6661 @PegasusActual93 Agree with you both. I love star wars, unlike many, I enjoyed the entirety of the new trilogy, but my favorite part of the whole universe was never the Jedi stuff, it was the Han Solo stuff. The Empire foot soldier stuff. The corruption within the ranks of the empire, the life in the "frontiers" of barely settled worlds.
Of all the movies, my least favorites remain the prequels simply because they take place on boring shiny cities with rounded buildings. Meh. Give me sand, give me forests, give me broken down ships and salvaged robots!
This game seems to have all my favorite themes from that universe. Add on top that it's a Ubisoft game, I know how most hate them, but man, I love me an open world Ubisoft game...
And a lot of people didn't note it but.... you can actually run from a hover bike, get to your ship, point your sights up, and seamlessly exit the planet and out of orbit... Yea I know No Man Sky has done it before, but its still not an easy thing to do. Starfield, among all things it offers, is not offering that seamlessness transition.
Just give me this game already!!! I need it!
@pharos_haven
I never played them... but I guess this is a good reason to give them a try...
@Tharsman @Daan6661 @PegasusActual93 I grew up loving the Jedi content mostly and ignoring everything else.
After Clone Wars cartoon though, I have come to appreciate alot of non-Jedi content as well.
I have mostly loved all the various Disney+ spinoffs and recent video games, as an example.
@ApostateMage Same here for me! Though I'm honestly skeptical of Starfield after what happened with Redfall. Yes I know different game developers, but you can't blame me lol.
@theMEGAniggle @Rob_230 Hopefully the choices you make do leave a deep impact on the overall story.
@KidRyan Oh Starfield is definitely going to be buggy, I have no doubt about that. The one thing I am gutted about is the fact that your player character is a mute. I really enjoyed the voiced protagonist in Fallout 4 (Nora was great) so I assumed Bethesda would keep that for all their games.
@KidRyan I think we should temper our expectations. At the end of the day, games are still games, not life. Choices having deep meaningful impacts on stories never go deep, unless it's an actual RPG. And even then, it's only been done well in some Fallout games and TW3.
And then factor in this being Ubisoft AND an action game. I just don't see the choices having much impact on the overall story. Maybe the way missions play out will differ but that's all I see
@KidRyan me too dude. I love how they expand the lore. Maybe it's not perfect, but the star wars universe deserves more fleshed out story's.
@ApostateMage I haven't played Fallout 4 yet, didn't know your character had a voice!
@theMEGAniggle Fair point haha, I should try and keep my expectations under control, due to this being an Ubisoft game.
@Daan6661 Which spinoffs are your faves? I love The Clone Wars, Rebels, Andor, and Jedi Fallen Order.
@KidRyan I hope I'm wrong though
@KidRyan Clone Wars was awesome, especially the later seasons. I'm kind off an optimistic viewer when it comes to star wars. I just like the info and the lore. Not too critical. I liked the stories from the jedi games. As for Rebels, you can't deny the huge moments in that show.
